Annual Holiday Auction

Items auctioned included weekend cabins in the remotes of Redding, Monterey, Tahoe, Twain Harte, and a Lighthouse in the middle of the Bay.  A great deal of good wine was auctioned, much of it landed by Jim Cannon and Bill Reid.  "Sails on the Bay" were purchased by Dan Tanita, Bart Wallace, Jim Young(2) and the President himself.   Jewelry was popular as always and taken home by Judy Morgan(a Zuni squash-blossom necklace), Leslie Levy(Oscar's beautiful ring) and Past President Dave, who lassoed the jeweled Elephant pin(closet Republican perhaps?).  The Club made mucho dinero on the Leslie/Jim/anonymous chef dinner for four couples, which became dinner for five couples by the time it was over.  The "no reason to bring your own booze" Delta fishing trip, sponsored by Herb and David K, went to Jon Lawlis and Jim Young.  The 1976 screw top Muscatel saw heavy bidding - Ralph Hill took it for $450 and it was no surprise to learn that Ralph had purchased this bottle twice before.  Tickets to the Cliff House reopening were hotly contested and went to Jon.   Susan Howe bought the almost indefensible large lithograph and Leslie grabbed the CAL fan package, flashing lights included.  The 1944 nighttime photograph of the Richmond Shipyards was hotly contested and won by the gracious, and tenacious, Jan Brown.  Jim Cannon's ride in a caboose went to Josh Genser.

The Holiday Auction is always a popular Club meeting, but seemed even more so this year.  Club spirit and good cheer were much in evidence.  Thank you all for your generous contributions to the Club kitty and a lively luncheon.

Last Week

President Stoney started this - our traditional Holiday Auction Meeting - with a loud ring of bell.  The dining tables were set with holiday cheer in mind, and it was great to be back in the big Mira Vista room again.  Stan Teaderman contributed fine wine for each table, and in addition, a case of the new Teaderman Label to the auction.  And good wine it was!

With a reminder to complete the Club Officer ballots on the table, Prez Stoney handed the meeting to the auctioneer team extraordinaire: Jim Beaver and Don Lau.

Visiting Rotarians
Former Richmond member and Past President of the Folsom Rotary club Bob Miller was present along with other Folsom members, Past President Ken Stewart and Current President Dave West.

Rotarians With Guests
There were many, but due to a lassitude on the part of your scribe, their identities went unrecorded.
