` Last Week An impressive number of loyal Rotarians turned out today on what would normally be a lightly attended pre-holiday meeting. President Stoney opened with a silent prayer for freedom and peace on earth. Charlie Wong then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. The thought for the day revolved around Prez Stoney's location on his 21st birthday and Dr. Martin Luther King's momentous "I Have a Dream" speach. That dream is coming true. Let's see what we can all do to speed it up! Visiting Rotarians Mr. P. K. Paul visited us all the way from Bangkok, Thailand. His classification is Pulp and Paper. Guests President Stoney brought guest Rhonda Harris to her second meeting as well as Thomas Cameron. Special Event Governor Connie Crawford will make her official visit to our club on Friday September 5th at noon. President Stoney would like to make sure that you and your spouse and/or sweetheart will attend this most important and festive meeting. We will be meeting in the big room so please help us fill it up. An informal cocktail reception is planned for 11 AM. See you there! Sunshine Report David K announced that Leah Schwarz was recovering nicely from cataract surgery with the help of her lovely nurse Werner. Announcements 1 .The September 12th meeting will be at La Strada. 2. Our Prez is promoting membership this year and the drive is on. All members are encouraged to bring friends and potential Rotarians to upcoming meetings. Growing the size of Rotary is one way to advance the Polio Plus campaign. 3. The board of Directors will meet next Friday, 10:00 am at Mira Vista with Governor Connie. Recognitions Erle and Phyllis Brown celebrated 44 years of wedded bliss on Friday. President Stoney had a birthday on Thursday and also donated to his daughter's Paul Harris Happy/Sad $$ Big Dan E was happy to, get rid of, I mean, see his son Phil off to college in Humboldt as well as revisiting the beautiful California coast for a week. Don Lau was happy that the Easter Hill project got some good press and recognized Don Hardison for his involvement. Don Hardison then gave a brief summary for those who were uninformed followed by Tom Butt's account of some missing goats. Judy Kafka was glad to report that long time friend to the club Shannon McGowan was recovering from the removal of benign brain tumors. Raffle Judy Kafka's name was pulled but alas she grabbed a white ball for a free lunch. $90 rolls into next week's pot.
