Sebastian Ilzig, Rotary Exchange Student

Sebastion Ilzig is from a town called Hanau in Germany.  Of course his native tongue is German and so his English was heavily accented.  Ilzig is in high school and is probably around 16 years old and yet he demonstrated the confidence of a person twice his age.   He thanks his current host family Terry and Pete.  The second half of the year he is spending with Lao and Fred Taralini from Marin who are also sponsoring him.  He is very thankful for being sponsored by Rotary.

Hanau is 20K from Frankfurt and near one of the largest airports in Germany.  It is an historical town that was settled in 14th century.  Many of the early immigrants were metal tradespeople who worked with gold and silver.  The author of the grim fairy tales also was a resident of the town.  The town has around 100,000 inhabitants.

The remainder of his talk involved showing a video of his town and narrating the sights.

Recognitions:
Leslie Levy had a birthday at thanksgiving, which she celebrated by donating $100 to the club. Charlie Fender also had a birthday. Jim Cannon is having an anniversary this Sunday.  It is his 18th. Red ribbons were distributed for all those members in the club that contributed more than $100 to the RI foundations.  Virtually every member of the club got ribbons and those that didn't felt they should have.

Announcements

Holiday auction is this coming week.  This is the principal fundraiser for the Richmond Rotary Club so please support it.  Jim Beaver highlighted some of the auction items: 1. Sailboat trips on the bay. 3. Charlie Wong is donating a stay at his cabin in North Shore. 4. Don Miller is donating a weekend at his estate in Capitola. 5. Several golf outings at various courses around the bay. 6. Herb Cole is offering a day of Sturgeon fishing. 7. Jim Canon is donating a ride on the Levin Terminal  short line Railroad. And finally the priceless bottle of Muscatel with its long a storied history.
