Program for Friday June 13, 2003 Prez Dave's Big Demotion Door Duty: Judy Morgan and Henry Kelman * * * * * * * * * Program for Friday June 20, 2003 Steve Seskin, Award-Winning Sognwriter Door Duty: Josh Genser and Don Miller * * * * * * * * * Program of June 06, 2003 Joke Competition Followed by a Roundtable David K and Werner squared off for a blond joke competition. David achieved great articulation of plot, a sense of irony and a twinge of sarcasm. Stepping up to the plate, Dr. Schwarz recited his quip. (courtesy of Dr. Don Miller) President Dave polled the audience via clapping of hands to determine the winner. Werner graciously accepted victory. . Happy/Sad $$ George Egan is very happy that Congress has seen fit to complicate the tax laws once again - very good for his business. He's also happy to see the stock market finally start to move. Jim Young was happy to be associated with cultural buffs like Joey Bags, and in praise of either marijuana or good times past, had good words to say about Eli's Mile High Club. Paul Hodgen commented that his Dad had also landed at Omaha Beach 59 years ago and was proud to be associated with John, Ralph and Secretary Joe. Josh admitted again that he was once a member of the Kiwanis Club (it takes awhile to work through the guilt of something like this) and was delighted with Stanford's success in the College World Series - this despite the outburst of an expletive by Erle Brown in deference to CAL. In the category of "maybe there aren't enough lawyers in the world", Tom Butt was pleased that his son graduated from law school. Jon Lawlis claimed he wouldn't be producing any sons going to law school, then decided that "you never know". Jon contributed $100 to Polio Plus - guilt money for being owner of a new Denali SUV in the lot. John Nicol helped with the acquisition, and we know Paul Hodgen was delighted. Prez-elect Stoney had $9 in honor of his grand daughters 9th birthday. Judy Kafka thanked Ted Abreu, Werner Schwarz and Paul Hodgen for volunteering for Peres kid summer camp driving duty. But the award goes to Charlie Wong who volunteered his Mercedes station wagon and suffered through a back seat case of mal de mer (could have been caused by Charlie's driving) and apparently his back windows haven't worked since the trip. In Memorium Robert Morris, a member of the club (Honorary) since 1960, has passed away. |
` Last Week With typical aplomb, Prez Dave rang the bell of his final full meeting as Grand Poohbah, asking poohbah in waiting to lead the pledge. Prez-elect Stoney got all the words right - all it takes to confirm his qualifications to lead this Club through the next year. This being D-Day, Prez Dave honored the members present who proudly wore the uniform 59 years ago in 1944 - Ralph Hill, John Nicol and Joe Nusbaum received a round of applause for their contributions to their country. Missing the official thought for the day, consider this: Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year. Visiting Rotarians Guests Our one Rotarian with a guest was Jim Bates, who brought Scott Mitchell of Simms Metal. Announcements 1. The Greatest Demotion Ever next week. 2. June 11, the new Board of Directors will meet with Prez-elect Stoney at the Baltic at 7PM. 3. Dan Ercolini announced the new fund raising program for the PERES School project. He recited the many achievements of the program to date, including 50 Spirit of Excellence campers, 20 computers awarded, cash to teachers to help with classroom supplies, the Halloween event sponsored by the Club each year. Dan asks us all to consider a significant donation to the PERES Program to fund next years activity. 4. Joe Bagley announced the Summertime Concert series in Point Richmond. Five concerts are scheduled sponsored by local businesses, including those of several members present. Josh Genser, Tom Butt, Mark Howe, Barry Gordon and Scott of Simms Metal. Coming Speakers Recognitions . Joey "I've been really busy" Bags introduced himself to the Club after several weeks of AWOL - it wasn't necessary, who can forget that Chicago accent? Joe Nusbaum, Club Secretary and the glue that has kept this Club together for years, was recognized for his birthday June 7th - the big eight zero. Joe was born the same year as John Nicol and Ralph Hill. After the Prez pointed out that Joe is 560 years old in dog years, Joe still had a contribution for the Polio Plus fund. Let's face it, birthdays are good for you - the more you have the longer you live. Raffle With $289 at stake, Dr. Dan won the bucket pull, and held an auction for his chance to pull a ball. Mark beat out the competition with a bid of $20, but pulled a white ping pong. The orange remains for another day. How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on.
