Program for Friday June 28, 2002 It's Demotion Day! President Rich Steps Down Door Duty: Michael Fenley and Werner Schwarz * * * * * * * * * Program for Friday July 5,2002 There is no program for July 5th. Have a great Fourth of July Door Duty: * * * * * * * * * Program of June 21, 2002 LANCE GIME is a criminologist with the Department of Justice and has been working out of the Berkeley and Richmond crime labs. He works with DNA evidence which has exploded in use over the past decade. Despite the OJ debacle, DNA is proving to be an invaluable tool not only in helping with current cases but in clearing up rape cases going back many years. As the database of felons increases more and more "cold hits" are happening. These are cases where an unsolved crime with no leads is solved through a DNA match. They are making huge strides in solving these old cases. Happy $$$$$$ JOHN NICOL was happy because STAN TEADERMAN is generous when the scholarship jar comes around. ERLE is happy that his alma mater - a local outfit - was the NCAA champions in rugby, women's softball and crew. Go Bars. Also he's headed for the Azores for awhile. BARRY GORDON'S mom is retiring from Lawrence Labs after 41 years and he's happy for her. DAN SANDERS is back from vacation and happy to see us again. TED ABREU'S youngest graduated from high school and he competed in the marathon for leukemia in San Diego. Seems the were rolling up the sidewalks after him so he had to truncate his effort which was nonetheless stellar in all respects. ELOF was happy that the U.S. soccer team disported itself well in the World Cup. CHARLIE WONG was happy about his daughter's graduation from Stanford and also her commission in the ROTC. And it's OK with him that it was Stanford and not Cal. DAN ERCOLINI went to ERLE'S breakfast on the Red Oak Victory and it was cool. Also his daughter is transferring back into the state at UC Santa Cruz. HANK COVELL is amazed and proud of the Spencer scholarship recipients who overcome incredible odds to make it into top rank colleges. CHARLIE FENDER has a fourth generation Cal grad in his family. . |
Greetings Fellow Rotarians: As usual the Club will meet at Noon at the Mira Vista Country Club, June 28th. LAST WEEK PAST PRESIDENT LESLIE LEVY grabbed hold of the agenda and JOE NUSBAUM quickly hauled BARRY GORDON'S ashes from the fire with a thought for the day. Visiting Rotarians: Guests: Donna Thomas was a guest of LESLIE. JOE BAGLEY'S daughter Lana is home for the summer and was his guest for the day. Judge Manuel Rose was again the guest of fellow jurist DIANA SMITH. STAN TEADERMAN was feeling like a visitor to his own club Announcements No meeting July 5. Heads up. Your new roster has been e-mailed to you thanks to the untiring efforts of JONATHON LAWLIS and JOE NUSBAUM. Check it out to admire and make sure your information is correct. If you don't have e-mail the roster will be mailed to you. The board approved a $500 donation to the YMCA. We'll be looking forward to reports from our Barcelona contingent including PRESIDENT RICH, INCOMING PRESIDENT DAVID BROWN and PAST EVERYTHING WERNER. Donna Thomas gave us a report on the mock interviews at Richmond High. She was surprised at the preparation and enthusiasm and in some cases the experience of the kids. They presented themselves well and this is something that is worthwhile next time you're asked to sign up. Recognitions Judge Rose, CHARLIE WONG and TOM BUTT were all waiting to draw a ball. They all found a white one. The pot is up to $472. Respectfully, Mr. Beaver " |
